The initiative is part a national campaign to help and promote the American Dream.

Governor Terry E. Branstad will be joined by executives from the private, non-profit and public sectors as he signs a proclamation declaring February as “Opportunity in Iowa” month.

Opportunity Nation, a national bipartisan campaign, that includes hundreds of public and private sector leaders, celebrities and many others from across the country are focusing their collective attention on re-energizing the American Dream. The bottom line is the zip code a person is born into shouldn’t predetermine their future.

To launch Opportunity Iowa, Governor Terry Branstad will sign a proclamation declaring next month, February 2012, as “Opportunity in Iowa” month, a time to harness and promote the best and brightest ideas from our public and private organizations in advancing opportunity in Iowa. The proclamation encourages all Iowans and businesses to conduct one or more activities that enhance access to the American Dream right here at home.

DMACC President Rob Denson and Barry Griswell, CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, will be on hand after the event to answer questions about the initiative. Mark Edwards, National Executive Director of Opportunity Nation will also be present to talk about this initiative.

Denson and Griswell were part of an Iowa delegation that launched Opportunity Nation in New York last November.
