Opportunity Iowa Youth Focus Group
Opportunity Iowa Strategist, Midge Santana, is organizing a focus group of youth ages 16-24 to find out more about opportunities in Iowa and how we can better utilize the Opportunity Compass and stay up to date on opportunities ( how to get the most out of the resource map). Email Midge at marissa.santana@dmacc.edu if you are interested in this group. We will also be meeting with pre existing groups through community conversations. If your group would like to hear more about the mission of Opportunity Iowa please contact Midge.

Women in Technology
Opportunity Iowa will be partnering with the Women in Technology Resource Group to identify different pathways to economic success through STEM fields. With this group, we will provide opportunities to learn more about the field, and what resources are available to young women who wish to pursue involvement in Science and Technology. [Read More]

Iowa Ranks #8 Nationally in Overall Access to Opportunity

The fifth annual U.S. Opportunity Index shows that access to opportunity has increased nearly 9 percent nationally since 2011, reflecting a dramatically improved post-recession employment picture, higher high school graduation rates and a significant drop in violent crime, among other factors. Iowa Raises National Opportunity Index Score

Iowa has moved from 7th, to 6th on the Opportunity Nation Index state rankings. The index uses data on jobs, economy, education, community health and civic life to measure opportunity for upward mobility for Americans where they live. Read more »

Study: 15 Percent Of US Youth Out Of School, Work
